apple iphone 14 development reportedly behind schedule due to china lockdowns

Apple may be forced to adopt a phased launch approach for the iPhone 14.

Nikkei Asia reports the development of at least one Apple iPhone 14 models is behind schedule due to the Covid-19 lockdowns in China. Suppliers are reportedly told to accelerate product development efforts to make up for lost time.

Sources say the worst-case scenario would see the manufacturing schedule and initial production volumes of the iPhone 14 models being affected. It remains to be seen if the suppliers can catch up, especially when the pace of reopening in China is “rather slow”.

Apple was forced to adopt a phased launch approach for the iPhone 12 after the Covid-19 outbreak disrupted the global supply chain, travel and production facilities in China. The current lockdowns in China have already led to extended delivery times for Macs and Apple is estimated to see a loss of 6 to 10 million iPhones if the situation does not improve.
