Apple iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Bionic chip and Mac’s M3 chips are reportedly going for the new enhanced 3nm process of TSMC, which starts manufacturing next year.

The new Apple A17 and M3 chips are reportedly seeing the light of day sometime in 2023.

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA – SEPTEMBER 07: Attendees examine a brand new iPhone 14 Pro during an Apple special event on September 07, 2022 in Cupertino, California. Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new iPhone 14 as well as new versions of the Apple Watch, including the Apple Watch SE, a low-cost version of the popular timepiece that will start at $249.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro A17 Bionic, Mac M3 Chips to Use TSMC 3nm Process

As per the latest news story by Mac Rumors, the upcoming Apple in-house chipsets, such as the A17 Bionic and the M3, which should power the next-generation iPhones and Macs, respectively, are reportedly sporting the 3nm process.

A recent report from Nikkei Asia predicts that Apple is looking to be the first-ever tech firm to use the enhanced chip-making process of TSMC, which debuts in 2023.

The sources of the news outlet claim that the upcoming iPhone series and MacBooks in 2023 are set to start running on 3nm chips.

The report further disclosed that Apple is already developing the next chipset for the iPhone 15 Pro, the A17 Bionic, early on. And it looks like it would be under the next-generation 3nm process of the chipmaker, known as the N3E.

Sources of Nikkei Asia also point out that the upcoming M3 chip for Mac machines is also going forward with the new 3nm process.

TSMC’s New 3nm Process: What to Expect

TSMC touts that its next-generation 3nm chipmaking technology brings improved overall performance, making it more efficient with energy as well.

While TSMC kept mum about the cost of production of the new N3E, some sources are saying that it is indeed more cost-effective than its older siblings.

Apple and TSMC

It is worth mentioning that the current high-end lineup of the iPhone 14, including the Pro and Pro Max variants, runs on an A16 chip, which rocks the 4nm process of TSMC.

And it looks like the next-generation Apple flagship, rumored to be the iPhone 15, is also going for TSMC.

However, Mac Rumors notes in its report that the iPhone maker has yet to introduce a device that runs on a 3nm process chip. But early reports have it would first get the shimmer of the spotlight in the upcoming iPad offering of Apple, which is expected to debut this October.

According to a report by Notebook Check, the upcoming M3 chip is set to debut in the upcoming 15-inch MacBook Pro and perhaps an iMac. But these devices are far from releasing as they are set to launch in 2023.
