The Chant, set in a new-age retreat, arrives this November and its latest trailer focuses on its fear factor.
Unveiled back in May, we knew that things were set to go horribly, horribly wrong for this retreat’s attendees, but developer Brass Token’s new “Reel 1 – Making Fear” trailer sheds a little more light on the horror featured in The Chant. In particular, it reveals that the nightmare unfolds when the attendees attempt to open their third eyes, showing them a hitherto unseen realm of reality. It sounds a bit like From Beyond, in fact, minus wiggly-headed Jeffrey Combs.
You’ll have to tangle with monsters up close, it’s not just a case of things going bump in the night. There’s one monster we found really disturbing, venting a warped human voice from the top of its head. That said, we do hope the twist isn’t that your character is killing normal people and the monsters are all in their head.
The trailer also sees Brass Token delve into the use of colour, with a zone that looks as if someone’s dialled the Aurora Borealis up to eleven. Your character will have a physical reaction to fear, stumbling, freaking out and so forth which we’re definitely curious about. On the one hand, it sounds like it will help sell their terror but, on the other hand, if it means you don’t have full control over your flailing, stumbling character, it could also prove irritating.
We won’t have to wait long to get our hands on The Chant, though we’d expect there to be a few more trailers between now and its November release date. You can check out the Making Fear trailer above and pick up The Chant when it hits PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam) this November 3rd.
